What is a "Good" Business System?

A good business system encapsulates everything about how your organization "does business" and how you are better than your competition. If you have a good system, anyone who follows it can get a good result every time. If you aren't getting the results you want, you just change the system. It's that simple. Instead of always 'reacting"—letting events drive your business—you drive performance outcomes by following your system.

Business Challenge: Bank Examiners at one community bank had identified weaknesses in the bank’s controls and a lack of clear procedures. The COO was worried about how to keep employees trained on laws that were continually changing. He was also concerned about how they were going to manage expansion with no formal training system in place. 

Financial Impact:  The costs associated with regulatory compliance for the bank were significant.  Training costs— especially after the bank began to expand— went through the roof.  For some positions it was taking up to two years to get someone self-sufficient. Because each branch operated differently, it was difficult to make use of floaters which further increased operating and turnover costs.  


Solution:  Getting a system of clear policies and procedures in place that employees and Board Members could easily understand was the COO's top priority.  Because he didn’t know where or how to start, he hired COMPROSE to help. Applying the Operations Mapping method our experts developed an easy-to-use business system that the Bank could train from and that streamlined Bank Secrecy Act compliance (BSA).  The COO saw an immediate benefit—increased accountability!  While in the past, roles and responsibilities had been “hazy” at best, they now had a way to make sure everyone's roles and responsibilities were clearly defined.
